Linphone is only recommended on iOS. Many versions of Linphone on other operating systems have at least one nasty bug: they will not let you add an account whose username contains a ~

If you really must use Linphone, there exists a workaround for this bug in most versions: add your account using the "wrong" username (simply delete the ~ ) and then later edit your account again and add the ~ back. The edit screen will correctly accept the ~ .
